A NOTE FROM RACHEL.
On a particularly gloomy morning in the spring of 2023, I pulled open the linen curtains hanging in my living room, squinting as clouds became embossed on my floor to ceiling windows and crept into my apartment. I sat on my couch, taking out my engraved leather planner as I do every morning, and glossed over the to-do lists that had accumulated throughout the months, admiring each task crossed-off, admiring my dedication to my work, and admiring all I had accomplished during my first three years in Los Angeles.
Moments later while driving down San Vicente to pick up an iced matcha latte with almond milk (wow – how LA have I become), a favorite song of mine began playing. Though I was physically driving and surrounded by bikers, walkers, moms with strollers, and the “San Vicente Runners”, as I like to call them, I was mentally on my Aunt and Uncle’s farm in Texas, in a town with less than 3,000 people, 10 years old, riding their horse Starbuck, and giggling as I tried to show off my new red cowgirl boots to my Papa and Grammy. As the lyrics sang, “You get up everyday and you work hard for your pay, happy in a pair of jeans”, I was reminded of the values, people, and honest work that enveloped my most formative years and undoubtedly shaped me into the woman I am today. Pulling over, I thought to myself, “When was the last time I was happy in a pair of jeans?”
To me, that question meant more than the literal as I was really asking myself, “When was the last time I reflected on my roots, honored the true-blue values that built me, and was proud of myself for who I was, rather than what I had accomplished?” For the first time in a long time, after 6 years of working in the industry, I felt an immense sense of nostalgia for my family traditions and family members who made me, me. I had spent a lot of my life shying away from my small town roots as I wanted so badly to be accepted by a big city and did not think who I was and who I had become could co-exist. I was wrong.
BLUE JEANS PUBLIC RELATIONS was founded on the basis of hard work, loyalty, authenticity, and humility – all qualities passed down from my Papa, who wore his blue jeans daily as a young six year old working on Indiana farms, my Grammy, who lost her father when she was eleven years old, but never lost her zest for life or humility, my family in Indiana, who built parts of Bloomington with their bare hands, my family in Texas, who I vividly remember always wearing blue jeans and overalls on the farm, my mom, who survived breast cancer and exists as a constant reminder of strength and resilience, and lastly my dad, who is quite literally the definition of “true-blue” as he is unwavering in commitment and extremely loyal.
BLUE JEANS PUBLIC RELATIONS is a celebration of meaningful values within a city that has lost its regard for honest work, sincerity, and the belief that who you are and where you come from is good enough.
True-blue values, made to fit. We’re not your average agency.
